Robot aids in fight against COVID-19
Chestnut Hill Hospital – Tower Health added a new weapon to its cleaning arsenal that will aid efforts to fight the spread of COVID-19. The new technology delivers a fast and effective dose of ultraviolet energy that kills germs and pathogens. The unique room mapping technology allows floor to ceiling disinfection in minutes.
“The hospital has assumed numerous new cleaning procedures in recent months that exceed the regulations indicated by the Center for Disease Control,” says John Cacciamani, MD, President and CEO, Chestnut Hill Hospital. “Our housekeeping staff have received training on the most recent cleaning procedures that keep our patients and staff safe. The addition of Thor, our cleaning robot, just provides another layer of virus fighting protection.”
The ultraviolet technology will be used for cleaning and disinfection of patient rooms and procedural areas, especially those used to care for COVID-19 patients. Just as sunlight can damage human skin, UVC light kills germs and pathogens, including COVID-19.
"The use of UV light will enhance the rigorous cleaning processes we have in place to further ensure that our facility is safe for patients, visitors, front line caregivers, and all employees," says Bevin Dolan, MD, Chief, Section of Infectious Disease at Chestnut Hill Hospital.
We are continually working to maximize the effectiveness of this innovative technology in order to keep you safe and to continue to provide all the clinical services on which our community depends. Tower Health Hospitals, including Chestnut Hill Hospital, are among only a few in the region using this process designed specifically for hospitals.
