Your Weight Loss Surgery Team

Chestnut Hill Hospital's bariatric surgery program is about so much more than weight loss. It's about helping you make - and maintain - profound changes for lifelong health and happiness.

Led by Philadelphia's own fellowship-trained weight loss surgeon, John Meilahn, MD, our team features dieticians, psychologists and nurses committed to your total well-being. From comprehensive pre-operative education, through compassionate follow-up care, we're here to support you through every phase of your journey.

Dr. MeilahnJohn Meilahn, MD

Member of the Medical Staff

Dr. Meilahn is a University of Pennsylvania and Johns Hopkins-trained bariatric surgeon who has helped more than 2,000 men and women across the Philadelphia region achieve their weight loss goals.

As a board-certified surgeon and member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), Dr. Meilahn is continually refining new, MINIMALLY INVASIVE BARIATRIC PROCEDURES. For patients, these laparoscopic techniques may provide several advantages, including less pain and scarring, and fewer complications for a faster recovery.

Dr. Meilahn also specializes in more complex weight loss procedures. That includes revisional surgery as well as laparoscopic duodenal switch, a less common option that may provide hope to morbidly obese patients.

Carlie KamnikCarlie Kamnik, RD, LDN

Program Coordinator

Carlie has worked with weight loss surgery patients for more than eight years. She earned a Bachelor of Science in nutritional science from Rutgers University, New Brunswick, and completed a dietetic internship with Sodexo, New York. During her internship, Carlie became interested in critical care and bariatrics realizing the significance proper nutrition had on patient outcomes.

Carlie is the program coordinator and registered dietitian for the weight loss surgery program. She meets with patients during office visits and leads the monthly support group sessions. Watching patients transform to healthier, happier people throughout the weight loss surgery process is her biggest motivator. Carlie says the weight loss surgery team is like family and each patient who walks through our doors is another valued addition.
